Equine Specialists

Dr. Jim and Lynda McCall are nationally recognized experts on horse behavior, training and management. From 1968 to 1998, Dr. Jim McCall was instrumental in the development of horse programs at Texas A & M University, the University of Maryland and Louisiana Tech University. He has also served as a legal consultant on horse behavior as well as a consultant to universities on the development of horse programs.

Since the 1970's Dr. McCall has been renown for his training philosophy referred to as Tackless Training or Breaking Without Force and his system of Free Lounging using body language to control the movement of horses. He has appeared on Howard Cosell's Sportsbeat, NBC Today Show and CBS Morning News as well as numerous other national and local television programs. In addition to giving clinics on his training techniques and philosophy, Dr McCall has been featured in EQUUS, the Quarter Horse Journal, Practical Horseman, Horse and Rider and Horsemen Magazine.

The McCalls have also written three books: Influencing Horse Behavior: A Natural Approach to Training, The Stallion: A Breeding Guide for Owners and Handlers, Horses Behavin' Badly and produced a training video, Lounging With Body English.  They recently developed an on-line course in Coat Color Genetics and are working on the development of future educational materials.

Since the late 1970's, Dr. Jim and Lynda McCall have written over 500 articles for leading horse magazines. They currently write the international syndicated column - The Pool of Knowledge which deals with topics related to the management and care of horses.

Retired from university teaching in 1998, the McCall's now reside in Mount Holly, Arkansas at their farm The Old McCall Place.  They currently stand stallions and train cutting and reining horses.

The McCall's have been involved with breeding and training Quarter Horses for over 40 years. In addition to cutting and reining, Jim has trained horses for almost every event including including hunters and jumpers, race horses, dressage horses, barrel horses, and pleasure horses.  

As breeders, they have bred an Olympic Gold Medal winner, multiple Thoroughbred stakes winners, and many AQHA, NRHA and NCHA  performance horses.
