Daily Lysine Requirement for 1100 Pound Horse

 

There are 22 amino acids that make up proteins. Out of the 22, the horse can make twelve and ten must be present in his diet in order for his body to build proteins. Lysine is referred to as the limiting amino acid because it is most lacking in the diet. . Therefore care must be taken to provide adequate amounts. The amount needed is related to the weight and age of the horse and what the horse is doing.

The following table is for one weight class of the horse. There will a difference in values for horses maturing to either a lighter or heavier weight.
